What Reset clears, and what it destroys EN

The last-resort button in Advanced settings - and why running it during an upload costs you that recording.

Reset wipes everything Rekorder has stored in your browser: its saved data, its cache and the recording files it keeps on your computer. Use it only when nothing else has fixed a problem. Don't run it while a recording is uploading, because you'll lose that whole recording.

What Reset clears

Reset works on the extension's data on your computer. It clears:

  • The extension's saved data and cache.
  • Every file Rekorder has stored locally. This includes parts of a recording that haven't finished uploading yet, and recordings saved on the device in Offline mode.
  • Your recording settings, which go back to their defaults in Offline mode, but stay the same in Cloud mode.

Reset doesn't sign you out of the extension, and it doesn't change whether you're in Cloud mode or Offline mode.

There's no undo. Once the files are deleted, Rekorder can't bring them back.

Why running it during an upload costs you the recording

While you record, Rekorder keeps your video on your computer and sends it to your account in pieces. If Reset runs before the last piece has arrived, the pieces still on your computer are deleted and the recording can't be finished. Rekorder warns about this next to the button: if you reset while an upload is in progress, you lose your entire recording.

Before you reset, make sure that:

  • You've stopped recording, and any upload has finished.
  • If you use Offline mode, you've downloaded any recording you want to keep.

To see what's stored locally first, open the OPFS Explorer, which lets you browse and download those files. See The OPFS Explorer, and when to reach for it.

Run Reset

  1. Click the Rekorder icon in your Chrome toolbar and open the extension's settings.
  2. Open the Advanced tab.
  3. Find Reset and click Confirm ».
  4. Chrome asks "Are you sure you want to reset Rekorder's data?" Confirm to continue.

The popup closes once the reset is done.

Try these first

Reset is rarely the right fix. Before you use it, look at the article that matches what you're seeing:
