What happens when you go over your free limits EN

What stops the moment you cross a ceiling, what keeps working, and how to get back under.

When you reach your free limit of 60 minutes of recording time or 1 GB of storage, Rekorder stops you adding anything new. It doesn't delete anything, and your existing recordings keep working. Delete something and the space comes back straight away.

What stops

At either limit, you can't add more to your account:

  • Starting a new recording. The extension tells you which limit you've reached and suggests deleting a recording you no longer need or upgrading to Pro.
  • Importing files into your asset library. Imports count towards the 1 GB.
  • Moving a recording in a way that would add to your total. Moving a recording between two free workspaces still works, because your total doesn't change.

If you hit the limit while recording

As you get close, the recording shows a "Recording limit nearly reached" warning with the time or storage you have left. If you reach the limit, the recording stops and you see "Recording stopped", along with which limit you hit. What was already uploaded is kept. See You hit a limit mid-recording. Was the take lost?.

What keeps working

While you're at a limit, you can still view, play back, download, share, edit, render and delete your existing recordings. Nothing is deleted just because you've filled the free allowance.

Recordings you make in Offline mode stay on your computer and don't count towards these limits. See Cloud mode and Offline mode: which one you are in.

How to get back under

Both limits measure what you're keeping right now, so there's nothing to wait for. Nothing resets on a schedule. See Does my free time reset each month?.

  1. Check which limit you've reached. The meter in the top bar shows both figures. It turns red when you're close to a limit. See Which limit am I hitting: minutes or storage?.
  2. Download anything you might want later. See Download your own recording.
  3. Delete recordings, or imported files in your asset library, until you're under the limit. Deleting is permanent. Archiving doesn't free space. See Archive vs delete.
  4. Reload the page. You can record again.

If you'd rather not delete anything, a paid seat takes a workspace's recordings out of your free limits. See What Pro costs, and what it includes.

When something is deleted for you

Filling the free allowance never starts a deletion clock. That only happens when a paid seat that covered your recordings ends. Those recordings then count towards your free limits again, and if you're over, a 30-day grace period starts. If you're still over when it ends, Rekorder may delete your oldest uncovered recordings, only as far as it takes to get back under. See The 30-day grace period and the deletion order and Get out of a grace period.

Troubleshooting

  • You deleted recordings and you're still blocked. You may be over the other limit, or imported files in your asset library may be using storage. Rendering an edit also keeps the original, which uses storage until you delete the recording.
  • You can't add recordings to a team workspace, and deleting doesn't help. That workspace needs a paid seat for you, which is a separate problem from your free limits. An owner or admin of the workspace can give you one. See Why you are seeing two different warning banners.
  • Moving recordings to another free workspace didn't help. Both limits belong to your account, so the same minutes and storage still count.
