Delete everything Rekorder holds about you EN

Where the request starts, what it reaches, and what has to stay behind.

To have Rekorder erase your data, delete your account from Settings, on the Deletion tab. That one request removes your recordings, the workspaces you own, your assets, your settings and your billing records in Rekorder. A short list of records is kept for security, legal and accounting reasons, and a few things live outside your account, so they need their own step.

Where the request starts

You make the request yourself, and you don't need to contact support. Rekorder asks you to confirm it twice, then waits 24 hours before it erases anything.

  1. Open Settings and select the Deletion tab.
  2. Click Delete my account…, type delete everything, and complete the security check.
  3. Click Email me the confirmation link.
  4. Open the email and follow the link within 60 minutes. Then click Yes, delete my account.

After you confirm, Rekorder signs you out everywhere, including in the extension. It emails you the date and time the deletion will run. You can still change your mind until then. Once the deletion has started, it can't be called off.

The Deletion tab shows what your account holds before you start: how many recordings you have, how much storage you use, how many assets you have and which workspaces you own. For the full process, including cancelling, see Delete your account and everything in it and Cancel an account deletion.

The button is disabled while a workspace you own has a Pro subscription that will renew. Turn off auto-renew first. See Why the Delete button is disabled.

What it reaches

When the deletion runs, Rekorder erases:

  • Your recordings, with their transcripts, chapters, summaries, comments, share links and edits.
  • Every workspace you own, with everything in it. That includes your personal workspace and your teammates' recordings in any team workspace you own.
  • Your assets and your profile picture.
  • Comments you wrote on other people's recordings.
  • Your settings, passkeys, unused sign-in links, and workspace invitations still waiting for your email address.
  • Your Google Drive connection.
  • Subscriptions, billing details, invoices and your saved card, for workspaces you own.
  • Log files the extension uploaded from your account.
  • Emails that were queued but not sent yet. The notice that your account was deleted is the last email you get.

The erased data is also deleted from all of Rekorder's backups immediately, so no copy is left waiting in a backup.

Some things are handled differently:

  • Recordings you made in other people's workspaces aren't deleted. They go to the workspace's owner, along with your folders there, and your membership ends. See What happens to your workspaces and teammates.
  • Your views of other people's recordings stay in their view counts, but they are no longer linked to you.

What has to stay behind

Rekorder keeps only these records after deletion:

  • Your email address and name, marked as deleted. This keeps the deletion on record and stops a banned account from coming back.
  • Sign-in and security logs.
  • Payment records from Stripe, PayPal and the invoicing system, which accounting and tax law require.
  • A record of your deletion request: when and from where it was made, and nothing you created.
  • Emails Rekorder already sent you, including the deletion notice.

Invoices are the practical catch. Rekorder keeps the payment record, but you can't download invoices once your account is gone. Download the ones you need first. See Find and download your invoices and What is kept after your account is deleted.

What the request doesn't touch

These are outside your Rekorder account, so deleting the account doesn't remove them.

  • Copies saved to Google Drive. They belong to you and stay in your Drive. Only the connection is removed. Delete them in Drive if you want them gone.
  • Files you downloaded. Rekorder can't reach recordings, transcripts or invoices you saved to your own computer.
  • Data stored by the extension on your computer. This includes Offline mode recordings, settings and any logs. To clear it, use Reset on the Advanced tab of the extension's settings, or uninstall the extension. Offline mode recordings are deleted with it and can't be recovered, so download any you want first. See What the extension stores on your computer and What Reset clears, and what it destroys.

If you only ever used Offline mode without an account, Rekorder holds nothing about you on its servers. See What leaves your computer in each mode.

Before you confirm

  • Download the recordings you want to keep. See Download your own recording.
  • Download the invoices you need.
  • Tell your teammates if you own a team workspace. They get an email when you confirm and another when the deletion is done. To keep their work, they can move it out first. See Move recordings between folders and workspaces.
  • Expect to lose any paid time left. If a workspace has Pro until a later date, that time ends with the deletion and isn't refunded.

If you only want to remove some data

You don't have to delete your account. Deleting a recording removes its video, audio, transcript, chapters, summary, comments and share links straight away, and it can't be undone. See How long recordings are kept and Archive vs delete.

If you can't use the Deletion tab, for example because you can't sign in, contact support. See How do I contact support?.

After the deletion

You can sign up again with the same email address. You start with a new, empty account, and nothing that was deleted comes back. See Sign in again after deleting your account.
