Eight commands, four bound by default, all re-bindable in Chrome.
Rekorder has eight keyboard shortcuts for controlling a recording without the mouse. Four have a key combination by default. The other four have none until you set one. You can change any of them in Chrome's own shortcuts page.

What each one does:
- Start or stop recording starts a new recording with the settings you last chose in the extension. If a recording is in progress, it stops it.
- Pause or resume recording pauses the active recording, or resumes it if it's paused.
- Mute or unmute microphone turns your microphone off or on without stopping the recording.
- Restart recording discards the current recording and starts a new one. There's no confirmation, so the timer resetting is your only sign that it worked.
- Turn camera on or off shows or hides the camera bubble while you record.
- Cancel and delete recording stops the current recording and deletes it. It has no default key, so it can't be triggered by accident.
- Move camera left moves the camera bubble to the next position clockwise.
- Move camera right moves the camera bubble to the next position counter-clockwise.
Except for start, the shortcuts do nothing unless a recording is in progress. The two camera-moving shortcuts and the camera toggle also do nothing when you're recording your camera only.
See your current shortcuts
- Click the Rekorder icon in your toolbar, then open Settings (the gear icon).
- On the General tab, find Key bindings and click View ».
Each action is listed with its key combination. An action with no shortcut shows a Configure » link instead.
Change or add a shortcut
- In the Key bindings list, click Configure ». Chrome opens its Keyboard shortcuts page in a new tab. You can also type
chrome://extensions/shortcuts in the address bar.
- Find Rekorder in the list.
- Click the box next to the action you want to change, then press the keys you want to use.
- To remove a shortcut, click the clear button next to it.
Chrome requires a modifier key (Ctrl, Alt, Command or Shift) as part of the combination. The change takes effect straight away. Reopen Key bindings in Rekorder to see the updated list.
Use shortcuts while recording a desktop app
By default, a shortcut's scope is In Chrome, so it only works while Chrome is the window you're using. When you record a desktop app, that app has focus, and an In Chrome shortcut does nothing.
To make a shortcut work from any app, open Chrome's Keyboard shortcuts page, find the action, and change the scope menu next to it from In Chrome to Global. Do this for the actions you want to use while you're in the app, such as pause, mute and stop.
Troubleshooting
- A shortcut does nothing. Another extension, Chrome or your operating system may be using the same keys. Open Chrome's Keyboard shortcuts page and give the action a different combination. On Mac, Command+Shift+R is also Chrome's hard reload, so you may want to rebind Restart recording.
- A shortcut does nothing while you're in another app. Its scope is still in Chrome. Set it to Global, as described above.
- Pause, mute, restart or cancel does nothing. These only work during a recording. Start one first.
- A camera shortcut does nothing. Camera shortcuts don't work when you're recording your camera only.
- The shortcut list shows "Configure »" for an action. No keys are assigned to it yet. Assign some on Chrome's Keyboard shortcuts page.
