The workspace you are browsing vs the one you record into EN

Two separate choices that catch almost everyone once.

Rekorder has two workspace settings that look related but do different jobs: the workspace you're browsing (what the dashboard shows you) and the workspace you record into (where your next recording is saved). Switching one does not switch the other, and this is the single most common reason a recording seems to "go missing."

The workspace you're browsing

This is whatever workspace is selected in the dashboard sidebar. It controls what you see: Library, Assets, Users & Seats, Billing and the usage meter all reflect this workspace. You change it with the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar. See Find your way around the dashboard.

Browsing into a workspace doesn't give you any new ability to record there, and it doesn't move your next recording there either - it's read-only in that sense.

The workspace you record into

This is the record target: the one workspace your next recording is saved to, no matter which workspace you happen to be browsing at the time, and no matter whether you start recording from the extension popup or from the website. You always have exactly one - there's no "unset" state.

You can see and change it in two places, and they stay in sync:

  • The extension popup. Open Settings, then Workspace, and select Change ». You'll see every workspace you belong to, with the current target marked and "All new recordings will land in the selected workspace below" above the list.
  • The Workspaces page on the website. Each workspace card has a camera icon (or a Record here link) you can select. The card that's currently the target shows "All your new recordings go here."

A workspace can only become the target if you can actually record into it:

  • Your personal workspace always qualifies.
  • A team workspace qualifies only if you hold a paid seat there, or if the account's free storage and recording time haven't been used up. A workspace you can't record into shows why - Needs a paid seat or Your free storage is full - instead of a control.

If a seat is later taken back or a workspace becomes unavailable, your target automatically falls back to your personal workspace.

Why this catches people out

The two settings are independent on purpose, so that opening a teammate's workspace to check on something doesn't silently redirect your own recordings there. In practice, this means:

  • Browsing into a team workspace to look around does not point your next recording at it. If you actually want to record there, you still have to set it as the target separately.
  • Setting a new record target does not switch which workspace you're browsing. You can be recording into your personal workspace while browsing a team one, or the other way round.

Troubleshooting

  • I recorded, but I can't find the video in the workspace I was looking at. You were browsing one workspace but your record target was pointed at another. Check the target in the extension popup or on the Workspaces page, then look in that workspace's Library. If you want the recording somewhere else, see Move recordings between folders and workspaces.
  • The workspace I want isn't offered as a target. You need a paid seat there, or the account's free storage and minutes are exhausted. See Who needs a paid seat, and who does not.
  • My target changed on its own. This happens when a seat you had is removed or a subscription ends - Rekorder moves your target back to your personal workspace rather than leave it pointed at a workspace you can no longer write to.
