Using Offline mode day to day EN

Find, download and delete the recordings you make in Offline mode from the Recording history panel.

In Offline mode, every finished recording is saved on your computer and listed in the Recording history panel. This is where you review, download and delete your recordings.

Open the Recording history panel

The panel only exists in Offline mode. In Cloud mode you manage recordings from your dashboard instead. If you're not sure which mode you're in, see Cloud mode and Offline mode: which one you are in.

There are two ways to open it:

  1. Click the Rekorder icon in your toolbar.
  2. Either click see all videos next to "Latest videos", or click the gear icon (Settings), open the Advanced tab and click View » next to Recording history.

The main popup shows only your three most recent recordings. The panel shows all of them. Use Back to return to Settings.

What the list shows

Recordings are listed newest first. Each row shows:

  • An icon for what you captured: tab, window, screen or camera.
  • The recording's name. If it has no name, Rekorder uses its source instead: Tab, Window, Screen or Camera.
  • A blue dot if the recording finished in the last 24 hours. Hover over it to see "New recording".
  • A check mark once you've downloaded it from this panel. Hover over it to see "Downloaded".
  • How long ago it finished, such as "5 min ago". Hover over it to see the exact date and time.

A recording appears in the list once it has finished. One you're still recording isn't listed yet. If the list is empty, you'll see "No recordings yet".

Download a recording

  1. In the Recording history panel, find the recording.
  2. Click the download icon (Download recording) on its row.

Chrome saves the video as a normal download. The file is named Rekorder_<name>_<date and time> and ends in .mp4 or .webm, depending on how it was recorded. Once the download starts, the row gets a check mark.

The check mark only records that you started a download from this panel. It doesn't confirm the file is still on your computer.

Delete a recording

  1. Click the bin icon (Delete recording) on the recording's row.
  2. When Rekorder asks "Permanently delete this recording?", click Delete. Click Cancel to keep it.

Deleting is permanent, and there's no undo. If you want to keep the video, download it first.

Keep an eye on storage

Recordings take up space in Chrome's local storage on your device. On the main popup, a small bar near "Latest videos" shows how much is used. Hover over it to see the used and free space. Once more than 80% is used, the bar is highlighted as a warning.

If storage fills up:

  1. Download the recordings you want to keep.
  2. Delete them from the Recording history panel to free the space.

If your device runs out of space, Chrome may remove recordings from Rekorder that you haven't saved, and you could lose them. Download anything important soon after you record it. For how storage works and how to protect your recordings, see Where offline recordings are stored, and how to keep them.

Troubleshooting

  • A recording is missing from the list. Check that you're in Offline mode and that the recording has finished. A recording you cancelled and deleted while recording is removed, and Chrome may have removed an unsaved one if space ran low.
  • The Recording history row isn't in Settings. You're in Cloud mode. The row only appears in Offline mode.
  • You need to look at the raw files. See The OPFS Explorer, and when to reach for it.
