Which limit am I hitting: minutes or storage? EN

Where to read both meters, and what each one is counting.

You have two free limits: 60 minutes of recording time and 1 GB of storage. Whichever you reach first is the one that stops you. The meter in the dashboard's top bar shows storage, and hovering over it shows both limits.

Where to read both meters

On the website

  1. Open your dashboard.
  2. Look at the top bar, next to the plan badge (Free or Pro). The meter reads something like "600 MB of 1 GB" and has a bar underneath.
  3. Hover over the meter. A card opens with two rows:
    • Storage, for example "600 MB of 1 GB".
    • Recording time, for example "23:45 of 60:00".

The bar in the top bar tracks storage only. Recording time appears only in the card. If you're refused at 40% storage, check the Recording time row.

Recording time is shown as minutes and seconds and never rolls into hours. "84:30" means 84 minutes and 30 seconds, which is over the 60-minute limit.

In the extension popup

When the workspace your next recording goes into is a free one, the popup has an Account free-plan usage section. It shows Storage and Recording time against their limits. See Set where your next recording lands.

What the colours mean

The meter's colour follows whichever limit is further along, not just storage.

  • Warning: either limit is at 80% or more.
  • Red: either limit is at 90% or more. The meter becomes a link, and on hover it shows Upgrade.
  • Refused: either limit is at 100%. Rekorder won't let you add anything more.

At 100% Rekorder tells you which limit you've hit. The message reads either "You have used all 1 GB of your free storage" or "You have used all 60 minutes of your free recording time".

What each meter counts

Recording time is the combined length of the recordings you're keeping.

Storage is the size of those recordings, plus the images, video and audio you've imported into your asset library. Imported files use storage but add no recording time.

Both meters count only what you currently have, not what you've recorded over time. Delete a recording and its minutes and storage come back straight away. See The free allowance: 60 minutes and 1 GB, explained.

  • Archived recordings still count. Only deleting frees space. See Archive vs delete.
  • Edited recordings take more storage. Rekorder keeps the original next to the rendered edit, and both count.
  • Only your own recordings count. Recordings other people made in a shared workspace count towards their limits, not yours.
  • Offline recordings don't count. They stay on your computer. See Cloud mode and Offline mode: which one you are in.

If the meter shows an infinity symbol

When you're in a workspace where you hold a paid seat, the meter shows an infinity symbol instead of a bar. Its tooltip says you hold a paid seat in this workspace, so recording there is unlimited. Recordings in that workspace don't count towards your free limits. The free allowance still applies to your other workspaces where you have no seat, and the meter goes back to normal when you switch to one of them.

Your free allowance belongs to your account, not to a workspace, so creating more workspaces doesn't add room.

Freeing up the limit you're hitting

  • Storage is the limit: delete recordings or imported assets you no longer need. Large recordings free the most.
  • Recording time is the limit: delete recordings. Long ones free the most minutes. Deleting an imported asset won't help, because assets don't use recording time.

Deletion is permanent, so download anything you want to keep first. See Download your own recording. The other way out is a paid seat. See What Pro costs, and what it includes.
