Use a saved passkey to sign in on the website or Rekorder extension, and what to do when it is unavailable.
A passkey lets you sign in to Rekorder with your device lock, fingerprint, face, or a security key instead of a password. You can use a saved passkey on the Rekorder website or in the extension popup, and fall back to another sign-in method if it isn't available.
Sign in on the website
- Open the sign-in box.
- Click Sign in with a Passkey, above the Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Apple buttons.
- Your browser or operating system asks you to confirm with your device lock, fingerprint, face, or a security key.
- Once you confirm, you're signed in.
Sign in from the extension
- Click the Rekorder icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the popup, then choose Sign in with a Passkey.
- A small window opens and asks for your passkey right away - confirm with your device lock, fingerprint, face, or a security key.
- The window shows "You're signed in" and closes on its own a few seconds later. You can also close it yourself.
What you need
- A passkey already saved to your Rekorder account. Add one from Settings → Security, or from the prompt Rekorder shows after you sign in. See Set up and manage passkeys.
- A browser and device that support passkeys, over a secure connection.
- The passkey has to be available on the device or browser you're signing in with. A passkey saved by a password manager (like iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager) usually syncs, so it works on any device signed in to that same account. A passkey on a physical security key, or stored on a single device, only works there.
When your passkey is unavailable
If you're on a different device, your browser doesn't support passkeys, or you no longer have the passkey, sign in another way instead:
Once you're signed in, you can add a passkey for the device you're on, or remove one you no longer have, from Settings → Security.
Troubleshooting
- "Passkeys need a recent browser and a secure connection." Your browser, device or connection doesn't support passkeys. Sign in another way.
- "Passkey sign-in was cancelled or no matching passkey is available." You cancelled the prompt, or your browser didn't find a passkey saved for Rekorder on this device.
- "That passkey request expired. Please try again." Try again - on the website, click the button again; in the extension, click Try again in the window.
- "That passkey is no longer registered with Rekorder." The passkey was removed from your account, usually from Settings → Security. Sign in another way, then add a new one if you'd like.
- "Passkey sign-in failed. Please try again." A general failure. Try again, or sign in another way.
