Install Rekorder and pin it to your toolbar EN

Rekorder is a Chrome extension. Installing it takes one click; pinning it takes one more, and it is the difference between the recorder being where you expect it and being two menus away.

Add it to Chrome

1. Open the Rekorder listing on the Chrome Web Store.
2. Click Add to Chrome, then Add extension in the dialog Chrome shows.
3. A welcome page opens by itself when the install finishes. It walks you through pinning, permissions and a five-second test recording — see Record your first video in under two minutes.

You do not need an account to install, and you do not need one to record: signing in is what turns on the cloud side — uploading, sharing, captions and the editor. Recording without an account is Offline Mode, and it is permanent, not a trial.

Pin it next to the address bar

New extensions are hidden behind the puzzle-piece icon, which means the recorder is two clicks away every time and the toolbar never shows you whether a recording is running.

1. Click the puzzle piece at the right of the address bar.
2. Find Rekorder in the list.
3. Click the pin next to it.

The Rekorder icon now sits in the toolbar permanently. The welcome page detects this and moves on by itself once you have done it, so there is nothing to confirm.

Which browsers this works in

Rekorder needs a recent Chrome, or another Chromium-based browser — Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Arc all install the same extension from the same listing. Firefox and Safari use a different extension system entirely and are not supported; see Which browsers Rekorder works in.

Removing it

Right-click the Rekorder icon and choose Remove from Chrome. Recordings already uploaded to your account stay in your account and remain available on the website; anything that only ever existed on this computer does not survive the uninstall.
