Sign in with an emailed link EN

How long the link lasts, what to do when it says it was already used, and why a bot check appears.

Rekorder can sign you in with a one-time link sent to your email address, so you don't need a password. Enter your email, open the message we send, and select Sign in. The link works for 20 minutes and only once.

  1. Choose Sign in with email in the Rekorder extension, or Use Email in the sign-in box on the Rekorder website.
  2. Enter your email address. If you're in the extension, wait for the bot check to finish (see below).
  3. Select Send in the extension, or Send link on the website.
  4. Open the email with the subject "Sign in to Rekorder" and select Sign in.

In the extension, the sign-in window closes on its own a few seconds after the link is sent.

You can open the link in a different browser from the one you asked for it in. That browser is the one that gets signed in.

If the email address already has a Rekorder account, you're signed in as soon as you open the link. If it doesn't, Rekorder asks for your first and last name and then creates the account. Capital letters in your address don't matter.

  • The link expires 20 minutes after you request it.
  • It can be used once. After you've signed in with it, it stops working.
  • If your email app or a security scanner opens the link a moment before you do, that's usually fine. Opening it again within about two minutes of the first time still signs you in.

If the link has expired or been used, request a new one.

Why a bot check appears

In the extension, the sign-in window shows a Cloudflare bot check above the Send button. It stops automated scripts from sending sign-in emails in bulk. Send stays disabled until the check finishes, and it usually finishes without you doing anything.

If you send a request and it fails, the check restarts. Wait for it to finish before you try again. The website sign-in box doesn't show this check.

Troubleshooting

The link was opened more than about two minutes before, or you already signed in with it. Request a new link. If you're still signed in on the browser you used the first time, you may not need one.

The link is older than 20 minutes, or it was copied incompletely. Request a new link and open it within 20 minutes. Use the button in the email rather than copying the address by hand.

The email doesn't arrive

  • Check your spam or junk folder, and any "Promotions" or similar tab.
  • Check that you typed the address correctly. Rekorder sends the email even to an address that has no account yet, so a typo won't show an error.
  • Wait a minute or two, then request a new link.

If it still doesn't arrive, contact support.

There's a limit on how many links can be requested in an hour, for each email address and for each network. Wait up to an hour and try again. Using the newest email you received is quicker than requesting more.

This is a general failure, and it can also happen if the bot check couldn't be verified. Wait for the check to finish and try again. If it keeps happening, try a different browser profile or turn off extensions that block scripts on the sign-in window.

You didn't ask for the email

You can ignore it. Nothing happens unless someone opens the link.
