How long recordings are kept EN

What is retained, what is deleted, and when each happens.

Rekorder has no expiry date on recordings. A recording in your account stays until you delete it, or until a 30-day grace period runs out after a paid seat ends and you're still over the free limits. Deleting is permanent.

What's kept, and for how long

  • Recordings in your account (Cloud mode). They're kept for as long as your account exists. Your free allowance and paid seats decide how much you can hold, not how long you can hold it. Archiving a recording hides it from your Library but doesn't delete it. See Archive vs delete.
  • The original of an edited recording. Rekorder saves an untouched copy the first time you use Apply & render. It's kept until you restore it or delete the recording. See Editing is non-destructive: getting the original back.
  • Recordings made in Offline mode. They stay on your computer until you download or delete them. They aren't in your account. If your device runs low on space, Chrome can remove ones you haven't saved. See Where offline recordings are stored, and how to keep them.
  • Copies you saved to Google Drive. They're yours and stay in your Drive, even after the recording is deleted in Rekorder.

What's deleted, and when

When you delete a recording

Deletion happens as soon as you confirm. The video and audio are removed, along with the transcript, chapters and summary. Comments, views and sharing settings go too, so any link you shared stops working. Earlier versions kept from editing are removed with it, and the space is freed straight away.

The recording is deleted immediately, backups included. There's no trash, and a deleted recording can never be recovered. See Can I recover a deleted recording?.

When a grace period runs out

If a paid seat that covered your recordings ends and you're over 60 minutes or 1 GB of free allowance, you get 30 days to fix it. Nothing is deleted during that time. After it, Rekorder deletes the oldest recordings that no paid seat covers, and stops as soon as you're back within both limits. A recording in a workspace where you still hold a paid seat isn't deleted this way.

See Will Rekorder delete my recordings? and The 30-day grace period and the deletion order.

Empty recordings

A recording that never uploaded any video is removed from your Library after about five minutes. See Why an empty recording disappeared from your library.

Temporary files on your computer

In Cloud mode, each piece of a recording is deleted from your computer once it has uploaded. Rekorder also removes leftover pieces that are more than a day old. See What the extension stores on your computer.

When you delete your account

Deletion runs 24 hours after you confirm it by email, and you can cancel during those 24 hours. After that, your recordings and everything else in your account are erased. A short list of records is kept for security, legal and accounting reasons. See What is kept after your account is deleted.

When you uninstall the extension

Recordings already in your account stay. Offline mode recordings are deleted with the extension. See Uninstall Rekorder, and what happens to your recordings.
