Allow camera and microphone access EN

Why Chrome asks before you have recorded anything, and which option keeps access from expiring.

Chrome asks for camera and microphone access when you first set up Rekorder, so your devices are ready before your first recording. To keep access from expiring, choose Allow while visiting the site or Forever in Chrome's prompt.

Why Chrome asks before you've recorded anything

Rekorder needs these permissions before it can list your cameras and microphones. That's why the request comes during setup and not when you press record. Rekorder asks for the microphone and the camera separately. If you have no camera, you can still allow the microphone, and the other way round.

Allow access

  1. In Rekorder's setup, find the Camera and microphone access step.
  2. Click Grant.
  3. In Chrome's permission prompt, choose Allow while visiting the site or Forever.
  4. Select the camera and microphone you want to record with.

You can change these devices later in the extension popup under Settings.

Which option to choose

  • Allow while visiting the site or Forever: Access stays active, so Chrome doesn't ask again.
  • A one-time choice such as "this time": Access expires, and Chrome asks again the next time you need your camera or microphone.

If you clicked Block

If access is denied, Rekorder shows "Camera or microphone access is blocked". Chrome won't show the prompt again on its own. Allow access in Chrome's site settings, then try again. The steps are in Camera or microphone permission is blocked.

If Rekorder says a camera or microphone is unavailable, Chrome couldn't find or use the device. See "Camera or microphone unavailable".
