The camera bubble is missing from the video EN

Usually the interface mode, a protected page, or a device that was never granted.

If your camera doesn't show up in a recording, work through these causes in order. Most of the time it's one of: the camera overlay wasn't turned on, the page you recorded blocked the live bubble but should still have your camera composited into the video, or Chrome never had permission to use the camera in the first place.

Check these first

  • The camera overlay was off. Open the Rekorder popup before you record and make sure the camera icon (Overlay camera) is on, not crossed out. If it's off, no camera is added to that recording at all. See Add your camera to a screen recording.
  • Interface is set to "Only in preview tab". With this setting, the bubble doesn't appear on the page you're recording, but your camera should still be added to the finished video - Rekorder composites it in through the recorder tab. If you only checked the page itself and not the finished recording, check the video again. See "UI in tab" vs "Only in preview tab".
  • You recorded a protected page. Chrome blocks every extension from adding anything on top of its own pages (chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store, other extensions' pages) and occasionally an ordinary https:// page blocks it too through its own security policy. On these pages the live bubble can't appear, but Rekorder falls back to compositing your camera directly into the video, so it should still be there when you watch the recording. See "The current tab is a protected tab".
  • Camera access was never granted, or was blocked. If Chrome never granted Rekorder camera access, or you clicked Block at some point, there's no camera for Rekorder to add. See Allow camera and microphone access and Camera or microphone permission is blocked.

If the camera really is missing from the finished video

  • You continued without the camera. If Rekorder showed "Camera or microphone unavailable" when you started - for example because the camera was unplugged or already in use by another app - and you clicked Continue, that recording has no camera bubble at all. See "Camera or microphone unavailable".
  • The camera was turned off partway through. If you clicked Toggle camera or the × on the bubble during the recording, or turned the camera off with a keyboard shortcut, the camera is missing for that part of the video. Rekorder remembers this choice, so check it's still on for your next recording too. See Move, hide or pop out the camera while recording.
  • The camera was left popped out in Picture-in-Picture. While the bubble is in a Picture-in-Picture window, it isn't part of the recording. If you popped it out and didn't bring it back before stopping, that stretch of the video has no camera. See Move, hide or pop out the camera while recording.
