The control bar on the page you are recording EN

Drag it, dock it to an edge, or keep it out of the video entirely.

When you record a tab with the Interface setting on UI in tab (default), Rekorder adds a small control bar to the page. You can start, pause and stop the recording from it, and you can drag it to another edge if it's in the way. If you'd rather not have it on the page at all, switch the Interface setting to Only in preview tab.

What's on the bar

The bar has a grip on one end and these controls. Hover over any button to see its name.

  • Start recording. Shows only before you start, while you're previewing.
  • Stop recording and Pause recording, with a timer next to them. These show once recording has started.
  • Restart recording.
  • Cancel & delete.
  • Effect. Opens the camera effects.
  • Mute microphone. Click it again to unmute.
  • Toggle camera. Turns your camera on or off.

A warning triangle can also appear on the bar when camera effects may slow your computer down. For the difference between Restart, Cancel & delete and Stop, see Restart, Cancel & delete, and Stop: the difference.

The bar shows a preview before you start only if the camera bubble and controls are already on the page. Use Auto camera preview in the popup settings for that. Otherwise, the bar appears when the recording starts.

Move the bar

  1. Point at the grip (the dotted handle) at one end of the bar. The tooltip says Drag to reposition.
  2. Drag the bar toward the edge of the page you want.
  3. Let go. The bar docks to the nearest edge, centred along it.

A few things to know:

  • The bar always docks to one of the four edges: top, bottom, left or right. It doesn't stay floating in the middle of the page.
  • On the top or bottom edge the bar lies flat. On the left or right edge it stands upright.
  • You can't drag it outside the visible page.
  • Rekorder remembers the edge you chose and uses it for your next recording. The first time, it's on the right.

Keep the bar out of the way

With the UI in tab setting, both the control bar and the camera bubble are captured in the recorded video. If the bar covers something you want to show, drag it to a different edge before you start. You can drag it during the recording too, but then the move is part of what's recorded.

TIP: Use keyboard shortcuts to move the camera bubble quickly, clockwise or counter-clockwise.

To keep the page completely clean, set Interface to Only in preview tab. Nothing is added to the page, and you control the recording from the recorder tab instead. See "UI in tab" vs "Only in preview tab" for how to change the setting and what else it changes.

If the bar doesn't appear

  • Interface is set to Only in preview tab. The bar isn't used in this mode. Use the controls in the recorder tab.
  • The page is protected. Rekorder can't add the bar to some pages, such as Chrome's own pages or the Chrome Web Store. It opens the recorder tab so you can control the recording from there. See "The current tab is a protected tab".
  • You're not recording a tab. The bar is added to the page only when you record a tab. For windows and screens, use the recorder tab or the popup.
