Blur sensitive information before you record EN

Click an address, a key or a whole column to mask it for the entire take, scrolling included.

Rekorder's Blur bar lets you click parts of a page to blur them before you start recording. The blur is applied to the page itself, so it stays in place while you scroll.

Blur parts of a page

  1. Open the tab you plan to record.
  2. Click the Rekorder icon in your Chrome toolbar.
  3. Click the blur icon. Its tooltip reads "Blur areas in the current tab". The popup closes and the Blur bar appears at the bottom of the page.
  4. Read the short message and click OK.
  5. Move your pointer over the page. Whatever is under it gets a purple outline. Click to blur it.
  6. Click a blurred area again to unblur it.
  7. When you're done, click Done on the Blur bar. A message says "Ready to record!".
  8. Click the Rekorder icon in the toolbar and click Start as usual.

Selecting is already on when the bar opens. The Blur bar has three buttons:

  • Select turns selecting on or off. While it's off, clicks work normally on the page.
  • Clear removes every blur on the page.
  • Done closes the bar and leaves your blurs in place.

What gets blurred

Each click blurs the single page element under your pointer, such as a line of text, a table cell, a field or an image. The purple outline shows exactly what you're about to blur. To cover a larger area, such as a whole column, hover until the outline surrounds the whole area you want, then click.

While selecting is on, your clicks only choose what to blur. They don't press buttons or follow links on the page.

Limits to know about

  • Only the tab you set up. Blur applies to the page you opened it on. Other tabs, windows and apps aren't blurred.
  • Reloading the page. The blur lives in the page you're looking at. If you reload it or leave it, set up your blurs again.
  • Pages that redraw themselves. If a page rebuilds the blurred section while you record, the blur may not carry over. Check the page after it updates.
  • Pages Chrome protects. Rekorder can't add the Blur bar to pages such as Chrome's own pages or the Chrome Web Store. See "The current tab is a protected tab".
  • You'll see it blurred too. The content is blurred on your screen as well as in the recording.

Before you share, watch the recording once to confirm nothing sensitive is readable.
