Your recording uploads while you are still recording EN

Short chunks go up in the background, which is why stopping is nearly instant.

Rekorder doesn't wait until you stop to start uploading. While you record, the recorder tab saves your video in small chunks to temporary storage on your computer, and those chunks are sent to Rekorder's servers in the background as soon as they're ready.

Why this matters

Because most of your recording has already reached the server by the time you click Stop, there's very little left to upload at that point. Rekorder just has to send the final chunk or two and finish the upload, so you see "Uploading recording data…" for a moment before the recorder tab closes - not the whole file uploading from scratch.

Each chunk is only removed from your computer after the server confirms it was received. If a chunk fails to send, the extension keeps it locally and retries, so a brief network drop during recording doesn't lose data.

What this means in practice

  • You don't need a fast connection at the end of a long recording - the upload has been spreading out for the whole session.
  • A stable internet connection while recording matters more than one at the very end. If your connection is weak or drops for a long stretch, chunks can queue up until it recovers.
  • Stopping a recording is not the same as it being ready to watch, edit or share - the server still has to process what was uploaded. See What happens between stopping and the video being ready.
  • Don't use Reset in the extension while a recording is still uploading - it clears local data and you'll lose the recording. See What Reset clears, and what it destroys.
