What happens between stopping and the video being ready EN

Reassembly, conversion, a thumbnail and an audio track, in that order.

When you click stop, your recording isn't ready right away. Rekorder still has to finish uploading it and then turn it into a finished video, so the video page shows a processing screen for a short while before it's ready to watch, edit, share or caption.

What happens, in order

  1. The upload finishes. Rekorder uploads your recording in small chunks while you're still recording, so only whatever hasn't uploaded yet needs to finish sending after you stop. See Your recording uploads while you are still recording.
  2. Reassembly. The uploaded chunks are stitched back together into a single file.
  3. Conversion. That file is converted into the video you'll actually watch, edit and share.
  4. Thumbnail. A still image is captured from near the very start of the video, for use in your library, on the video page, and in share emails. See The thumbnail is black or wrong.
  5. Audio track. An audio-only version of the recording is extracted. You never see this directly - it's what Rekorder uses later if you generate captions, a summary or chapters.

Once all of this finishes, the recording is marked ready and the video page reloads itself automatically - you don't need to refresh it.

What you can't do yet

Until processing finishes, you can't edit, share, caption, summarize or download the recording. This is expected, not a bug - see Why editing, sharing and captions wait for processing.

How long it takes

Processing time depends mainly on how long the recording is and its resolution and frame rate - a longer or higher-quality recording takes longer to convert. If it's taking much longer than that, see It has been "processing" for a long time for what's normal and when to contact support.
