An upload that seems stuck EN

What to check first, and why it is usually safe to leave it alone.

Rekorder uploads your recording in small chunks while you are still recording, so by the time you stop, most of it is usually already on the server. What you see afterward is only the last chunk or two catching up - not a failure. For the full picture of what happens after you stop, see What happens between stopping and the video being ready.

What to check first

  • Your internet connection. Rekorder does not show a "you're offline" warning if your connection drops. It just keeps quietly retrying, about once a minute, until a chunk goes through.
  • Whether you're in Offline mode. In Offline mode, recordings are kept on your device and are not uploaded at all until you switch back to Cloud mode. See Cloud mode and Offline mode: which one you are in.
  • Whether Chrome is still running. The upload happens in the background, separately from the extension popup, so closing the popup does not stop it. If you close Chrome entirely before it finishes, the unsent chunks stay saved on your device and the upload resumes automatically the next time you open Chrome.

Why it's usually safe to leave it alone

  • The percentage shown in the extension's upload screen reflects how many chunks are left to send, not your connection speed. A single slow or retried chunk can make progress look paused right before it jumps ahead.
  • Nothing is lost while it waits. The unsent parts of your recording stay stored on your device until they upload successfully.
  • Reopening the popup, restarting your computer, or waiting longer does not make the upload finish any faster - it mainly adds a delay while the connection is checked again.

When to actually do something

  • Don't use Reset in the extension while an upload is in progress. Resetting clears the extension's local data, including any recording that hasn't finished uploading yet. See What Reset clears, and what it destroys.
  • An interrupted upload isn't retried forever: Rekorder keeps trying for roughly a day after you started the recording. If it's still stuck after that, the unsent part is removed and can't be recovered.
  • If the upload finishes but the recording then sits in "processing" for a long time, that's a separate stage - see It has been "processing" for a long time.
  • If the recording never shows up in your library at all, see The recording never appeared in my library.
