What limits a take in each mode, and what does not.
No single take has a fixed maximum length. What stops a long recording is your allowance in Cloud mode, or the free space on your device in Offline mode.
Cloud mode has no per-take cap. Whether a long take can finish depends on where it's being recorded.
Either number can stop you first. A long take at high quality can hit the 1 GB storage limit before it hits 60 minutes. To see which one you're at, read Which limit am I hitting: minutes or storage?.
Rekorder warns you shortly before the limit, showing how much time or storage is left. When you reach it, the recording stops and the extension tells you which limit you hit.
The take isn't discarded. What was recorded up to that point is kept. Deleting recordings you no longer need gives the minutes and storage back straight away. See You hit a limit mid-recording. Was the take lost?.
Offline mode doesn't use the free allowance, so there's no time limit. Recordings are saved in Chrome's storage on your device, and the only limit is the space Chrome makes available. The extension shows how much of that space you've used.
If the space runs out, Chrome can remove recordings you haven't downloaded, and you could lose them. For a long take, check your free space before you start and download the recording when it's done. See Where offline recordings are stored, and how to keep them.
A recording is uploaded in small pieces while you record, so a long take doesn't have to be sent all at once when you stop.
