Caption generation failed, or is rate limited EN

"Please wait a minute and retry", wrong language detected, and outright failures.

This article covers the three ways generating captions can go wrong: a cooldown message telling you to wait, captions that come out in the wrong language, and generation that fails outright.

"Please wait a minute and retry"

If you see "You recently generated captions for a recording. Please wait a minute and retry.", you're generating or regenerating captions for the same recording too soon after the last transcript finished. Rekorder allows one generation per minute per recording, timed from when the previous transcript arrived, not from when you clicked Generate.

  • Wait a minute, then select Generate or Regenerate again.
  • The cooldown only applies to that one recording. You can generate captions for a different recording right away.

Caption generation failed

If you see "Caption generation failed.", the transcription attempt didn't complete. Rekorder doesn't lock you out after a failure: the Generate or Regenerate button comes back immediately, so you can try again straight away.

  • Select Generate (or Regenerate) again. Most failures are temporary.
  • If it keeps failing on the same recording, try again after a few minutes.
  • If it still won't generate, see How do I contact support?. Mention the recording so support can look at what happened.

Wrong language detected

If the captions came out in a language that isn't what's spoken, or look like nonsense, auto-detection likely guessed wrong. Regenerate and pick the correct language from the Language list instead of leaving it on Auto-detect. See Caption languages, and how the language is chosen for the full steps and why this happens.
