Set defaults so you do not reconfigure every recording EN

Resolution, camera, microphone, countdown and sharing settings that stick.

Rekorder remembers the choices you make in the extension popup, so your next recording starts with the same setup. You don't need to save anything. Change a setting once and it stays that way until you change it again.

What Rekorder remembers

These are remembered as soon as you change them.

On the main popup screen:

  • What you record: a tab, a window, the entire screen or camera only.
  • Whether Overlay camera is on.
  • Whether Record microphone is on.

In the popup's settings, which you open from the settings icon in the top bar, each tab holds different options:

Tab What's remembered
General Countdown (no countdown, 3 seconds or 5 seconds), Pointer highlight, Auto camera preview, Multi-monitor, and the workspace your recordings go to
Video Resolution (1080p, 720p, 480p or 320p), Frame rate (15, 24, 30 or 60) and Quality
Audio Microphone device and Source sound
Camera Camera device, Interface, Effect, camera position, and the shape, size, border and mirror flip of the camera bubble

The Advanced tab also holds settings that are remembered, such as the encoder preference. Each of these options has its own description in the popup.

Change a default

  1. Select the Rekorder icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the popup.
  2. Select the settings icon in the top bar.
  3. Open the tab you need, such as Video or Audio.
  4. Change the option. It's saved as soon as you pick it.
  5. Select the settings icon again or go back to the main screen and start recording as usual.

To turn the camera or microphone on or off by default, use the Overlay camera and Record microphone buttons on the main popup screen instead. Their state is kept for the next recording too.

Where your settings are kept

When you're signed in, your settings are saved to your Rekorder account and a copy is kept in the extension. In Offline mode, they're kept only in the extension on this computer. See Cloud mode and Offline mode: which one you are in for the difference.

Good to know

  • Camera-only recording doesn't overlay a camera on a screen, so the Overlay camera button is switched off and disabled while you're in that mode.
  • The camera and microphone lists show the devices Chrome can see. Rekorder needs permission to use them. See Allow camera and microphone access if the lists are empty.
  • The Interface setting only applies when you record a tab.
  • Resetting the extension clears the data it stores. See What Reset clears, and what it destroys before you use it.

Sharing defaults

Who can see a recording and what viewers can do are not set in the extension popup. Set them separately in Set sharing defaults for every future recording.
