Add your camera to a screen recording EN

Turn the bubble on, pick a device, and frame yourself before you start.

You can add your camera to a tab, window or screen recording as a small overlay, called the camera bubble. You turn it on in the Rekorder popup before you start, and you can check how you look in a preview before you record.

Before you start

Chrome needs permission to use your camera. If you have not allowed it yet, see Allow camera and microphone access.
If you only want your camera, with no screen, use the Camera only recording type instead. See Record just your camera, with no screen.

Turn the camera on

Click the Rekorder icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the popup.
Choose what to record: a tab, a window or the entire screen.
Click the camera icon (Overlay camera) next to the microphone icon so that it is on. A crossed-out camera means it is off.
Click Start.

Rekorder remembers this choice, so the camera stays on for your next recordings until you turn it off again.

Pick a camera

If you have more than one camera, for example a built-in one and a USB webcam, choose which one Rekorder uses:

In the popup, click the Settings icon.
Open the Camera tab.
Choose a device from the Camera list.

If the list shows No camera found, Rekorder cannot see a camera. Check that it is connected and that Chrome is allowed to use it.

Preview and frame yourself

When you open the popup, Rekorder shows the camera bubble and the recording controls in the current tab straight away. This lets you check your camera and put the bubble where you want it before you record.

This is controlled by Auto camera preview in Settings > General. It is on by default. If you turn it off, the bubble appears only when the recording starts.
When you record a tab and Interface (in Settings > Camera) is set to Only in preview tab, the bubble does not appear in the tab. You see the camera in the recording page preview instead, and it is still in the final video. See "UI in tab" vs "Only in preview tab".
The bubble cannot be shown on protected pages, such as Chrome's own settings pages or the Chrome Web Store.

In Settings > Camera you can also change the bubble's shape, size, border and position, and turn on Mirror flip so the camera behaves like a mirror. See Shape, size, border and position of the camera bubble. To blur or replace your background, see Camera background effects.

Troubleshooting

"Camera permission blocked": Chrome has denied access to the camera. See Camera or microphone permission is blocked.
"Camera or microphone unavailable": the camera may be missing, in use by another app, or not allowed. You can cancel, or continue recording with the devices that are available. See "Camera or microphone unavailable".
The bubble does not show in the tab: check that you are not on a protected page, and that Auto camera preview is on. See "The current tab is a protected tab".
