Connect or disconnect Google Drive EN

Where the connection is managed, and what connecting, reconnecting and disconnecting each do to copies you already saved.

You manage the Google Drive connection from the Google Drive card in Settings. Connecting lets Rekorder save copies of your recordings to your Drive. Disconnecting stops new saves. Neither one deletes copies that are already in your Drive.

Where the connection is managed

  1. Open Settings and go to the Connectors tab. See Find your way around Settings if you need help.
  2. Find the Google Drive card.

The card shows one of four statuses:

  • Connected. Rekorder can save to your Drive. The card shows the Google account, the folder (Rekorder, in My Drive), when you connected, and how many recordings you've saved.
  • Needs reconnect. Google has stopped honouring the connection. The card names the account it was for and when access was removed.
  • Not connected. You haven't connected Drive, or you disconnected it.
  • Checking… Rekorder is asking Google whether the connection still works. This happens each time you open the tab. If Google can't be reached, the card says so and keeps the connection as it was.

Open How it works on the card for a short summary of what connecting means.

You'll also be offered Connect Google Drive the first time you choose Save to Drive on a recording. See Save a recording to Google Drive.

Connect Google Drive

  1. On the Google Drive card, select Connect.
  2. Choose the Google account you want to save to, and sign in if Google asks.
  3. On Google's consent screen, leave the Google Drive box ticked, then continue.
  4. Back in Rekorder, the card shows Connected.

You can connect a different Google account from the one you use to sign in to Rekorder. You stay signed in to your own Rekorder account.

If you untick the Google Drive box, or cancel on Google's screen, Rekorder shows that Google Drive wasn't connected. Try again and leave the box ticked. For what the permission covers, see What Rekorder can see in your Google Drive.

Reconnect Google Drive

The card shows Needs reconnect when you removed Rekorder's access in your Google account, or when the access has expired. Select Reconnect and go through Google's consent screen again.

  • Saves that stopped because access was removed start again on their own once you've reconnected. They start over from the beginning.
  • If you reconnect with the same Google account, your earlier copies are still yours in that Drive. Saving a recording again replaces its copy if Rekorder can still find it in the Rekorder folder.
  • If you reconnect with a different Google account, new saves go to that account's Drive. Copies already in the old account's Drive stay there. Saving a recording again creates a new copy in the new Drive.

Disconnect Google Drive

  1. On the Google Drive card, select Disconnect.
  2. Read the message, then select Disconnect again to confirm. Select Cancel to keep the connection.

Disconnecting removes Rekorder's access with Google and deletes the connection details Rekorder stored.

  • New saves stop.
  • Recordings you already saved stay in your Drive. They belong to you. Delete them in Drive if you don't want them.
  • Saves that were still waiting, or in progress, fail with the message "Google Drive was disconnected." Connect again and save those recordings again.

You can also take the access back from your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Rekorder then shows Needs reconnect instead of Not connected.

What each action does to copies you've saved

Action Copies already in your Drive Saves still waiting
Connect or reconnect Stay where they are Start again, or resume after a reconnect
Access removed in Google Stay where they are Wait until you reconnect
Disconnect Stay where they are Fail until you connect again
