What is normal for a long recording, and when to tell us.
After you stop a recording, Rekorder still has work to do before it's ready to watch, edit, share or caption. The video page shows a processing screen and reloads itself once that work is done. Processing usually takes less than 5 minutes and should never take more than 10. If yours has gone past 10 minutes, contact us.
What happens during processing
- While you record, the video is already uploading to Rekorder in the background, in small chunks.
- After you stop, the remaining chunks finish uploading. Rekorder then reassembles them and converts the recording into a shareable video, along with a thumbnail and an audio track.
- Editing, sharing, captions, summaries and chapters are all unavailable until this finishes. That is normal, not a bug.
See What happens between stopping and the video being ready and Why editing, sharing and captions wait for processing for the full lifecycle.
How long is normal
- Usually less than 5 minutes.
- No more than 10 minutes.
The time depends mainly on how long the recording is and its resolution and frame rate. A longer or higher-quality recording takes longer to convert.
Troubleshooting
- Leave the video page open for a few minutes. It checks automatically and reloads itself the moment the recording is ready, so you don't need to refresh.
- If you closed the tab, reopen the recording from your library. Processing continues on Rekorder's side even when no page is open.
- If the recording never appeared in your library at all, that is a different issue. See The recording never appeared in my library.
- If you're waiting on a render from the editor (after clicking Apply & render) rather than on the processing after stopping, see A render failed or never finished.
- If the upload seemed slow or stalled before you even stopped recording, see An upload that seems stuck.
If a recording has been processing for more than 10 minutes, contact support. Include:
