The pristine file is kept from your first edit, however many edits follow.
Rekorder keeps an untouched copy of your recording the first time you render an edit. You can go back to that copy at any time with Restore original, however many edits you've made since.
When the original is saved
Edits in the editor are saved as a draft. A draft doesn't change the video, so there's nothing to restore yet.
The original is saved the first time you use Apply & render, just before the video is rebuilt. It stays saved until you restore it. Later renders don't replace it. See Save a draft vs Apply & render.
Get the original back
- Open the recording in the editor.
- Select Restore original at the top of the page.
- Read the confirmation, then select Restore original again. It says: "Discard all edits and restore the original video? This cannot be undone."
- Wait while Rekorder restores the video. The editor's buttons are locked until it finishes, and the page reloads when the restore is done.
If you've only saved drafts and never rendered, Restore original just discards the draft. This happens straight away.
What changes when you restore
- The video goes back to the original recording. All your cuts, reordering, silenced sections and overlays are gone.
- You can't undo a restore. If you want your edits back, you'll need to make them again. For smaller mistakes, use Undo in the Edit tab instead. It works on your current edits before you render.
- Captions are regenerated if the recording had them. The old captions matched your edited video, so they're cleared and generated again for the original. The language is detected automatically unless you had set one.
- Summary and chapters are cleared. They matched the edited video too. See Why rendering clears captions, summary and chapters.
- Noise removal is off. The original sound is restored, so if you'd used noise removal, apply it again if you still want it. See Remove background noise from a recording.
- The saved original is used up. After a restore, the next render saves a fresh original from the video as it is then.
If the restore doesn't finish
The editor shows an error status and unlocks its buttons. Try Restore original again. If it keeps failing, see How do I contact support?.
