A timeline that cuts, reorders, silences, de-hesitates and layers, without touching the original.
The editor lets you cut, reorder, silence and layer a recording on a timeline. Nothing you do changes the original until you render, and you can always get the original back.
You can also choose Edit from the recording's menu.
The editor is available only to the recording's owner. It also stays unavailable while the recording is still processing, and shows "This recording is still processing. The editor will be available once it has finished." See Why editing, sharing and captions wait for processing.
Split the recording into segments, delete the ones you don't want, duplicate them, and drag them into a new order. Each segment is lettered by its place in the original recording, so the order stays clear after you rearrange. Ctrl-click (⌘-click on Mac) selects several segments at once, and the same shortcut works for other actions. See Cut out a mistake, and reorder what is left.
Shift-drag across the track to select an area, then right-click it and choose Mute. The video stays and only the sound is silenced. Double-click a mute to remove it. From the same right-click menu you can merge segments or turn the selection into its own segment. See Silence a section without cutting the picture.
In the Audio tab, set a silence threshold and a minimum silence length, then choose Detect. Silences are highlighted on the track, and Remove cuts them all at once. See Remove all the dead air automatically.
Also in the Audio tab, Mute filler words finds hesitations such as "um" and "uh" and mutes each one. It needs a transcript with word timing, so generate captions first. See Mute filler words.
The Audio tab also has the Background noise filter, which applies to the whole recording. See Remove background noise from a recording.
Choose Import assets… to place an image, a video clip or audio from your asset library on a track above the timeline. An overlay can cover the recording, or push the timeline apart to make room for it. See Add a logo, image, clip or background audio and Cover the track, or push the timeline apart.
