A condensed account of what a recording covered, editable and searchable.
A summary is a short account of what your recording covered. Rekorder writes it from the recording's captions, and you can edit it afterwards. Viewers see it under the video, and search can find recordings by it.
You need captions first, because Rekorder builds the summary from the transcript. See Generate captions for a recording. Only the person who owns the recording can generate a summary.
The summary appears in the Summary section below the video. It's short, at most 255 characters, and it's written in the recording's caption language. See Caption languages, and how the language is chosen.
If there are no captions yet, Rekorder says "Generate captions first — a summary or chapters cannot be created without one."
You don't have to use the generated text. As the owner, you can also write your own or change the generated one.
A summary you write yourself is limited to 255 characters, the same as a generated one.
If you select Auto-generate Summary when a summary already exists, Rekorder warns you: "This will replace the current summary. Generate a new one from the transcript using AI?" Selecting Generate replaces the old text, including any edits you made to it.
Regenerating your captions doesn't touch the summary.
Anyone who can open the recording sees the summary. Hiding the transcript from viewers doesn't hide it. If there's no summary, viewers see "No summary yet." Only you can add, edit, delete or generate one.
If you see "Generation failed" with "Something went wrong while generating. Please try again.", wait a moment and select Auto-generate Summary again. Your existing summary stays as it was.
