Your card is expiring, or has expired EN

What we warn you about, when, and what happens if nothing changes.

Rekorder checks the expiry date of the card it has on file for a paid workspace against that workspace's next renewal date. If the card will not live long enough to be charged, you get a warning on the billing page and an email before the renewal, so you can replace the card while there is still time. A card is valid through the end of the month printed on it: a card marked 04/26 can be charged until the end of April 2026.

How you are warned

On the billing page. The Payment method section always shows the card brand, the last four digits and "Expires MM/YY". When the date is a problem, it is highlighted and a line explains why:

  • "This card expires before your next renewal. Add a new one so the renewal goes through." — the card is still chargeable today, but it will have expired by the time the renewal is due.
  • "This card has expired and cannot be charged. Add a new one to keep Pro active." — the expiry date has already passed.

By email. Rekorder sends one email with the subject "Your card is expiring soon". It names the workspace, gives the renewal date, and has an Update your card button that opens the billing page for that workspace.

When the email is sent

  • It goes out in the days before the renewal, alongside the "renews in N days" reminder, which is sent up to six days ahead.
  • You get it once per billing cycle, not once a day. If you do nothing, the next one comes before the following renewal.
  • It goes to the workspace owner only, because only the owner can change the card. Other members are not emailed.
  • It is sent per workspace. If you own several paid workspaces with the same card, you get one email for each.

What to do

Replace the card on the Billing page for that workspace, in the Payment method section, using Update payment method. Nothing is charged when you save it, and your renewal date, billing interval and seat count are untouched. Change the card on file has the full steps and the errors you can hit along the way.

Once the new card is saved, the warning line disappears and the section shows the new expiry date.

What happens if nothing changes

The warning does not stop the renewal from being attempted. On the renewal date Rekorder charges whatever card is on file, and an expired card is normally declined by the bank.

From there it is an ordinary failed renewal: the subscription is marked past due, Rekorder retries the charge 1, 3 and 5 days after the first failure, and Pro keeps running through a seven-day grace window. Each retry uses the card on file at that moment, so adding a working card during the grace window is enough — you do not have to pay manually. If no attempt succeeds before the grace window ends, the subscription is cancelled. A renewal payment failed covers that sequence and what you keep afterwards.

When you will not get this warning

  • Your subscription is billed through PayPal. Rekorder holds no card for you, so there is nothing to check — the funding source is a setting in your PayPal account. See Card or PayPal: the differences that matter.
  • You saved a Link payment method instead of a card. It has no card expiry date, so no expiry warning applies to it.
  • The subscription is not set to renew. A subscription you have already cancelled will not be charged again, so an expiring card costs you nothing.
  • The card expires after the next renewal date. That renewal can still be collected, so no email is sent. The expiry date is on the billing page either way, and you will be warned before the renewal that the card cannot cover.

Troubleshooting

  • The billing page shows an old expiry date after my bank sent a replacement. The page shows the details from the card as it was last saved or last charged. A replacement card issued by your bank is not picked up on its own — save the new card to update what Rekorder holds.
  • I got the email but I had already updated the card. The email is prepared shortly before the renewal, so one can cross with a change you just made. Open the billing page: if the Payment method section shows the new card with no warning line, nothing further is needed.
  • I never got an email and my card had expired. Only the workspace owner is emailed, and only for workspaces billed by card that are set to renew. Check that you own the workspace, and check your spam folder. The emails Rekorder sends, and how to stop them explains what else is filtered.
  • There is no "Update payment method" button. You are not the workspace owner, the workspace has no running Pro subscription, or it is billed through PayPal.
  • The warning is on a workspace I do not recognise. The email and the billing page both name the workspace, and each paid workspace has its own card. Open Billing and check the line under the heading names the workspace you mean to change.
