Will Rekorder delete my recordings? EN

Only after a 30-day grace period, only what no paid seat covers, and only as far as it takes.

Not by surprise. Rekorder only deletes recordings after a paid seat that covered them has ended, you're still over the free limits, and a 30-day grace period has run out. Even then it deletes only recordings that no paid seat covers, oldest first, and it stops as soon as you're back within the limits.

When deletion can happen

Deletion needs all three of these to be true:

  1. A paid seat that covered your recordings has ended. That can be a cancelled or expired plan, a failed payment, a seat given to someone else, or your removal from a workspace.
  2. The recordings that seat covered now count towards your account's free limits, and that puts you over 60 minutes of recording time or 1 GB of storage.
  3. You're still over either limit when the 30-day grace period ends.

If you're on the free plan and have never had a paid seat, filling your free allowance doesn't start a grace period. You just can't add more until you free up space. See The free allowance: 60 minutes and 1 GB, explained.

Nothing is deleted on the day the seat ends.

What happens during the 30 days

  • Your existing recordings are kept. You can still view, play, download, share and delete them.
  • You can't create new recordings or upload anything outside a paid seat until you're back within the limits or have a paid seat again. Recording in a workspace where you still hold a paid seat isn't affected.
  • Rekorder shows a banner with your deadline and how far over you are.
  • It emails you about 30, 15, 7, 3 and 1 day before the grace period ends. Make sure the email address on your account is current and that these messages aren't filtered. See The emails Rekorder sends, and how to stop them.

What gets deleted, and in what order

If you're still over a limit when the 30 days are up:

  • Only recordings that no paid seat covers are eligible. A recording in a workspace where you still hold a paid seat is never deleted, however old it is.
  • Rekorder deletes the oldest eligible recording first, then the next oldest, and so on.
  • It stops as soon as you're back within both limits. If you were only over on minutes, it deletes only as much as that takes.
  • Assets you've imported count towards your storage but aren't deleted this way. If your assets alone take you over the limit, you can stay over it even after every eligible recording is gone.

Deleting a recording removes its video and audio, transcript, chapters and summary. It can't be undone, and subscribing again afterwards doesn't bring it back. See Can I recover a deleted recording?.

When it happens, you get an email listing the recordings that were deleted. If they were in someone else's workspace, that workspace's owner gets a copy.

How to keep your recordings

Any of these stops the deletion, as long as you do it before the grace period ends:

  • Get a paid seat again, or subscribe again. Your recordings in that workspace are covered.
  • Download recordings you want to keep, then delete them. See Download your own recording.
  • Delete recordings you no longer need, until you're back within both limits.

Moving recordings to another free workspace doesn't help. The limits belong to your account and follow whoever made the recording, wherever it sits.

If you're already in a grace period, Get out of a grace period walks you through it.

Seeing what's at risk

While a grace period is running, a recording that would be deleted shows a badge with its place in line. Number 1 goes first. Recordings your paid seats cover don't get a badge. See The "at risk of deletion" badge on a recording.
