How it works on a card, and why PayPal has to be cancelled and re-subscribed.
If you pay by card, you can switch a Pro subscription between monthly and yearly billing on the Billing page. The switch takes effect at your next renewal. Nothing is charged today, and your renewal date stays the same. A PayPal subscription can't switch. You have to cancel it and subscribe again on the interval you want, or move it onto a card first.
Only the workspace owner can change billing.
Switch on a card subscription
- Sign in to Rekorder in your browser.
- In the sidebar, open Admin and select Billing. The page shows the workspace you are currently browsing, so switch workspace first if you own more than one.
- On the Plan card, select Switch to yearly billing or Switch to monthly billing. If you're switching to yearly, a Save badge next to the button shows the discount.
- Read the confirmation. It gives your next renewal date, the new interval, and what you will pay per month or per year for your seats.
- Select Switch.
When the switch is booked, the Billing interval line on the Plan card shows a note such as Switching to yearly on Mar 3, 2026. The Next charge amount now shows the new interval.
What changes, and when
- Your current period stays as it is. You keep the interval you paid for until the period ends. Nothing is refunded or charged when you book the switch.
- The renewal date does not move. On that date, you're charged for the new interval instead of the old one.
- Switching to yearly means the whole year is charged at once on your renewal date. The price per seat is lower, but the charge is about twelve times a monthly one. See What is charged today, and what at renewal.
- Switching to monthly costs more over a year. The confirmation warns you with a Monthly billing costs you more box. It compares what you pay per year now with what you would pay after the switch.
Change your mind before the renewal
Until the renewal date, you can cancel a booked switch:
- On the Billing page, select Keep billing monthly or Keep billing yearly on the Plan card. The button names your current interval.
- Select Keep it to confirm.
The booked switch is cancelled, and nothing else changes.
Why PayPal can't switch
PayPal doesn't let Rekorder change the interval of an existing PayPal subscription. The Billing page doesn't show a switch button for PayPal subscriptions. Instead, it shows this note: A PayPal subscription cannot switch between monthly and yearly billing.
You have two options:
- Move the subscription onto a card, then switch. This is free and keeps your paid period. On the Billing page, select Change next to "Billed through PayPal" and follow the steps. Once the card is in place, switch interval as described above. See Card or PayPal: the differences that matter.
- Stay on PayPal. Cancel the subscription, wait for the paid period to end, then subscribe again and choose the interval you want. While your workspace still has paid time left, you can't pick PayPal at checkout, so you can't subscribe again early. Pro stays active until the end of the paid period. See Cancel a subscription, and what you keep.
When the switch is not available
- A seat change is booked for your next renewal. Only one change can be booked for the next renewal at a time. The Plan card says so instead of showing the switch button. Wait for the seat change to take effect at renewal, or undo it on the Users & Seats page, and the switch comes back. See Cancel or revert a scheduled seat change.
- The subscription is cancelled. A cancelled subscription won't renew, so there is nothing to switch. The switch button is not shown.
- You are not the owner. If you try to switch anyway, you see Only the workspace owner can change billing. See Owner, admin and member: what each can do.
Troubleshooting
- "Your subscription changed while this was being saved." Something else changed the subscription while you were switching. Reload the page and try again.
- "The billing interval could not be changed." Try again. If it keeps happening, contact support.
