Reading the checkout total, including VAT and any volume discount.
The Due today line in the Subscription details panel on the Get Pro page is what you are charged the moment you confirm: one full billing period for the seats you picked, plus VAT where it applies. Nothing at this point is split or prorated, and unless you change something, the same amount is what comes off at each renewal.
The panel shows your basket first - the workspace, the plan, Monthly or Yearly, and the number of seats - and then three money lines:
For example, five seats on yearly billing are $10 per seat per month, so $120 per seat for the year and a $600 subtotal. With 21% VAT, Due today reads $726.00.
If the total looks roughly twelve times bigger than you expected, that is yearly billing doing what it says: the discount for paying yearly is in the per-seat rate, and the whole year is charged up front.
Checkout has no separate discount line. From 21 seats upwards, the volume discount is applied to the per-seat rate first, and the subtotal you see is that reduced rate multiplied by your seats. So a lower-than-expected subtotal on a large team is the discount, already applied.
To see the discount spelled out, use the pricing page before you start checkout: set Team size, and the breakdown there shows what you save for paying yearly, what you save for your volume tier, the adjusted price and the final price. See Volume discounts and the seat cap.
The breakdown recalculates as you fill the form in, so changing Country or the Tax ID updates the subtotal, the VAT line and Due today straight away. Check Due today once more after your last edit. For what counts as a valid number and how the check works, see Billing details, VAT numbers and reverse charge.
If the workspace has a cancelled subscription with paid time still left on it, and you pay by card, checkout is restoring renewal rather than selling you a new period. Due today is zero, the button reads Set up renewal, and the card you enter is stored and first charged when the remaining time runs out. The subtotal and VAT lines are not shown in this case.
PayPal cannot do this, because a PayPal subscription starts charging immediately. On a workspace in this state, PayPal is unavailable until the remaining time expires - use a card, or wait. See Card or PayPal: the differences that matter.
If you buy again on a workspace whose subscription is still running, the panel shows an Active sub expires line with the days remaining. You pay the full amount today, and the period you buy is added to the end of the existing one - the extra days are named in the tooltip on that line. Your existing time is not lost and not refunded.
Renewal charges the same way: seats multiplied by your per-seat rate, plus VAT, in the currency the subscription is locked to.
See When your subscription renews, and where to see it.
Seats you add in the middle of a period are not part of this total. They are charged separately, for the days left in the period, at the rate your subscription is already on - see Add seats now, and what proration costs. Seats you remove are not refunded; the reduction lands at your next renewal.
