Can I record something outside the browser? EN

Yes. Rekorder can record any app window on your computer, or your entire screen, not just Chrome tabs. Everything you can see in the window or on the screen ends up in the recording.

Record a window or your entire screen

1. Click the Rekorder icon in your toolbar to open the popup.
2. Choose what to record. Hover over the icons to see their names:
   • A window records one window, such as a desktop app.
   • The entire screen records everything on a monitor.
3. Click Start.
4. A new Rekorder tab opens and Chrome shows a share dialog. Pick the window or screen you want to record.
5. Switch back to the window or screen you picked. Recording has started.

If you cancel the share dialog, no recording is started.

Window or entire screen: which to pick

• Pick a window when you only want to show one app and keep everything else private. Only that window is recorded.
• Pick the entire screen when you'll move between several apps. Anything that appears on that screen is recorded, including notifications.

If you record a window, switch to it after you start. If you record your entire screen, switch back to the screen you want to show.

If you have more than one monitor

After you pick a monitor, Rekorder normally takes you back to the tab you were on. With more than one monitor, that isn't always the right place. Turn on Multi-monitor in the extension settings to keep the Rekorder tab in front after you pick a monitor instead.

Sound, camera and stopping

• Sound from your computer. Turn on Source sound in the audio settings to record the sound your computer plays. Chrome on Linux doesn't support this. See Record the sound from a page or from your computer.
• Your voice and camera. You can still record your microphone and add your camera as an overlay when you record a window or screen.
• Stopping. Stop the recording from the Rekorder popup or from the Rekorder tab. The recording also stops if the window you're recording is closed.
